It is with a great deal of regret that I have decided not to link to the blog of Debbie Schlussel any more. She’s linked here before, for which I am extremely grateful. We’ve even exchanged e-mails (not all of them happy), which was a tremendous encouragement to me as a young neophyte blogger.
Debbie’s a great blogger, a wonderful writer, and I should be so lucky as to write half as well as she does on a daily basis.
But Debbie’s got a bug up her bonnet. And the bug’s name is Sean Hannity.
Debbie has written twice about Sean Hannity’s involvement with the Freedom Concerts and The Freedom Alliance, on March 25th and March 18th. But Schlussel’s enmity for Hannity goes far deeper than just the “Freedom Concerts Scandal”. A search of her website mentions Sean Hannity literally dozens of times, for 7 pages of search results.. She even mentions him in negative ways in her movie reviews!
She criticizes his guests. She criticizes his programming choices. In fact, I was unable to find one single positive mention of Sean Hannity anywhere on her website.
And I’m a fan of Debbie’s. I’m not necessarily a fan of Sean’s. He seems like a nice guy; and I admire his effort with the Freedom concerts. But I don’t have cable – nor an antenna or satellite. I don’t watch ANY TV; and when i did, I though Fox’s “Hannity” was the weakest show in their evening lineup. (That’s not meant to be a slam against Sean; just my personal preference.)
The basis of her original animus appears to be that someone on Hannity’s staff may have plagiarized one of Debbie’s articles in February 2007 — see HERE. But you be the judge.
Brent Bozell has too, as he notes on Newsbuteres HERE which was originally taken from his Facebook page. He also notes the Libs are starting to pick up on Debbie’s screed, too.
Brian Maloney and the Freedom Alliance have weighed in on the controversy. Plus Newsbusters, FrumForum, and American Spectator have all done their own investigations. None of them have found any wrongdoing.
Me? It’s just getting painful avoiding the Hannity screeds on Debbie’s site. Debbie, I love your stuff, but I’ve had enough.
So, I’m no longer linking to Debbie’s site. Just so you know. My apologies for any inconvenience this might cause.
