The #TCOT Report is reporting: Geithner Confirmed by Senate: 10 Republicans Vote For; 3 Democrats Vote Against. The Senate Roll Call on this Vote is HERE. TEN Republican Senators Did Not Vote AGAINST Geithner: Bond (R-MO), Not Voting Corker (R-TN), Yea Cornyn (R-TX), Yea Crapo (R-ID), Yea Ensign (R-NV), Yea Graham (R-SC), Yea Gregg (R-NH), Yea Shelby (R-AL), Yea Snowe (R-ME), Yea Voinovich (R-OH), Yea I’m particularly disappointed with my Senator, John Cornyn of Texas. After the way I’ve been praising him lately, I’m sorry to say he voted to confirm the notorious Tax Cheat as Treasury Secretary. Two Democrats did not vote to confirm Geithner; Ted Kennedy of Mass. (illness), and Senator Wyden (D-OR). Now, just imagine something for a moment. Just imagine. 1.) Imagine all the Republicans had voted AGAINST Geithner. The vote would then be 50-44 For Geithner. Geithner is still confirmed. 2.) Now, imagine Senator Wyden of Oregon and Senator Lieberman of Connecticut had joined the Republicans. The vote is then 48-46 -Gethener is still confirmed. 3.) Now imagine two of those “on the fence” Democrats joined us. It’s not impossile — they’re going to have to explain why they voted for a Tax Cheat for Treasury Secretary. This gives them a reasonable exit from that. Geithner is NOT Confirmed.
Why were we NOT pursuing this option? This could have been done! THIS is why the Republicans are the Minority Party right now. We won’t stand up for the hard questions and vote the right way in the hard times.
