This really annoys me. No, I take that back — this infuriates me.
You very likely know what I’m talking about. Artists who skirt the boundaries of what’s considered “acceptable” in order to make a quick buck by titillation, all the while pusing back the boundaries of what’s acceptable in society.
And I’ve had enough of it.
you may remember earlier I posted about the artist on Ebay who paints nudes of President Obama riding a unicorn. In one he rides with a flag declaring “Victory in St. Paul”, whilst in the second he slays the Wall Street Bear with his trust unicorn giving aid.
(*Resisting simultaneous urge to laugh and gag*)
Well, he’s back, and this time he’s brough Ugly Betty and Madonna with him. I kid you not; naked President Obama appears with a teenaged girl and a full-frontal nude of Madonna (the alleged performer, not the religious figure.)
In this first painting President Obama, nude on his unicorn, does battle with the blimp-like Rush Limbaugh, weiling his mighty Golden EIB microphone. Since this painting does not feature any full-frontal nudity it is not a violation of Ebay’s Terms of Service (TOS) to sell it.
In the second painting the unicorn and nude President Obama are apparently giving each other backrubs. It occurs to me as I write this the latent homo-eroticism just drips from the canvas, really.
The third painting is seemingly more innocent, but alternately more disturbing as you think about it. President Obama and the unicorn are present, as is the character from ABC TV’s “Ugly Betty. Both the unicorn and President Obama praise Betty’s beauty. Innocent, right?
Except for the fact that you have to wonder – why are they all shown only from the neck up?
Is this a crop of a larger painting? If so, are they all nude? President Obama has yet to appear with his clothing in any of this artist’s painting – why would he be clothed in this one? And if that is the case, it appears the unicorn and the President are hitting on a teenager. (Granted, America Ferrara is 24; but she’s petite; she’s got braces on her teeth . . . )
Eeeeewwww . . . Eew! Eew! Eew! Creepy.
This is a fourth painting, but it is full frontal nudity of a figure described as “Madonna” with a cartoon mouse’s head on the detailed human body. You can view the whole painting here if you wish.
Well, the more I thought about this just-plain-creepy stuff, the more upset I got about it. This is not really art; it’s just ego-indulgence on the part of the artist. Why in the world anyone would want to buy this is beyond me.
So i complained to Ebay. The full-frontal stuff is a direct violation of Ebay’s TOS. The “Ugly Betty” stuff is just plain creepy. And the rest is just . . . weirdly inappropriate for a family-oriented site.
If you’d like to complain as well, The Ebay contact form is HERE.
You may also feel free to copy and/or use my letter to Ebay as well:
I find the following items objectionable for the following reasons:
Item number: 250363689550 (Nude Obama and Rush Limbaugh) Frank Nudity of the subject matter.
Item number: 250365881704 (Camp Lei Nude Obama Unicorn Hawaiian Volcano Art Lacey) Frank Nudity of the subject matter.
Item number: 250364446281 (Ugly Betty TV Nude Obama Unicorn Affirmation Art Lacey) Implied Nudity of the subject matter involving a teenaged girl.
Item number: 260356117570 (Faithmouse Madonna Cartoon Fleshbot Original Art Lacey) Full Frontal Nudity of subject matter.
The first two items should very likely be “Adults Only” due to their frank nudity, although Mr. Lacey has been very careful to skirt the Ebay Terms of Service (TOS) by not showing full frontal nudity . However, they do show the President of the United States nude, which I find highly disrespectful and objectionable personally.
The third item involves two of the characters in Mr. Lacey’s previous painting (President Obama and the unicorn) surrounding a teenaged girl. While I do not know if there is more to this painting or not (is it cropped from a larger painting of nudes?), nudity is strongly implied in the painting. All of Mr. Lacey’s previous paintings to date involve nudity; which strongly implies that the President is nude with a teenaged girl; which is frankly disgusting and strongly objectionable.
The final painting is of a woman with a mouse’s head in a graphic sexual display of full-frontal nudity, which is a violation of Ebay’s Terms of Service.
I do NOT consider it sufficient to simply de-list number 260356117570 (Faithmouse Madonna Cartoon Fleshbot Original Art Lacey). In light of the continuing nature of Mr. Lacey’s prediliction with nudity that skirts the lines of the TOS; as well as his escalation into the areas of implied child pornography and full-frontal nudity in direct violation of Ebay’s TOS; I request all four of these items be de-listed and his account be suspended immediately. I also reserve the right to notify my local San Antonio Police that Ebay condones child pornography and full-frontal nudity online should you not act swiftly on these matters.
I appreciate your swift attention to this matter.
I’m going to watch Ebay carefully on this. If I don’t see any action by the end of the “Ugly Betty” auction (Friday afternoon), I’m going to saddle my horse, get my lance, and prepare to tilt at some windmills while I report this to the local authorities. (Whomever that may be; I’ll check into it tomorrow.)
Let’s put a little pressure on this dirtbag. Complain HERE, and complain often.
* * * UPDATE 1: * * *
Please check the Comments Below. Apparently the right to do whatever you damned well please sexually is some kind of cause celebre’ on Ebay (who knew?) Some of the Comments have been quite profane; and rather than be accused of encouraging that sort of thing, I’ve just deleted the worst of them. I also deleted the link for the Sex Toys Ad that’s appeared in the Comments as well, rendering the accompanying photo into HTML gibberish.
These are the kinds of folks that like this kind of “art.” Profane, foul-mouthed sellers of sex toys over the internet.
It’s worse than I thought.
* * * UPDATE 2: * * *
The artist has responded to my post HERE. Originally he had several paragraphs commenting on how I had misinterpreted his work. I replied and addressed his points in detail, and asked about the homoerotic elements of his work.
He deleted both his post and my comments. All that remains is this:
I had previously posted here what I hoped was a reasoned and restrained defense of my work in response to what I had at first assumed was an uninformed charge leveled at my Taint character. My mind had refused to grasp the reality of the actual complaint.
My assumption is that there is no discussing this with him. Sad.
