Obama State Dept. denies Visa for Iraqi Interpreter for US Forces
Denied entry to US due to his background as Anti-Saddam Freedom Fighter in ’96
Fox News is reporting that an Iraqi Muslim Freedom Fighter, who assisted US Forces as an Interpreter since the invasion in 2003, has been denied a Visa by the US State Dept. “Jasim” (an assumed name to cover his identity), has received death threats from former Saddam loyalists, and is seeking asylum in the US. Military Active Duty and Iraq War Vets are rallying to his cause.
From Fox:
An Iraqi translator who has earned commendations for risking his life repeatedly to save the lives of many American soldiers in combat has been denied a visa to live in the United States because of nonviolent actions he took to overthrow Saddam Hussein — at the same time the U.S. government was calling for regime change in Iraq.
Jasim, whose name is being withheld for his safety, has received strong support from the U.S. military, and the Department of Homeland Security approved his application for a visa. But the State Department has denied Jasim a visa because he was arrested in 1996 for actions against the Saddam dictatorship.
Incredibly, Jasim even has a letter of commendation from Gen. David Petraeus.
See? Now that right there is a change you can believe in! Now we’re taking into account the police records of oppressive, discredited regimes into account when we make immigration recommendations.
(Suggestion to Jasmin: you might want to get a ticket to mexico and just swim across with the crowd.)
