If Washington is a circus and and Congress is full of clowns, then Kay Bailey Hutchison is a juggler for sure. Today she tosses up this ball; saying she won’t resign her Senate seat until after the Republican primary:
AUSTIN — U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison answered the year-old “will she or won’t she?” question Friday by announcing she won’t resign her Senate seat during her Republican primary challenge to Gov. Rick Perry.
Hutchison had teased the Texas political community since late 2008 by saying first that she would not seek re-election in 2012 and would resign to run against Perry.
Later, she said she would resign in October or November for the contest.
Whilst the day before, she had said she wasn’t going to resign right now because of the pending Health Care Bill:
“I have said before that I intended to resign this fall after I worked to defeat the Obama health care bill. I have not said the exact date for resignation because we were waiting for the Democrats to schedule the Senate debate.
“But the bill has now passed out of the house, taking us one perilous step closer to a government takeover of nearly one third of our economy. We are a step closer to huge tax increases. To the loss of countless jobs. And the end of patient choice. The Democrats are going to pull out every stop to socialize American medicine. But we will fight it every step of the way. And it could be a long fight.”
Both of which, as the first article noted, contradicts her original statements to resign her seat during the campaign.
Cheese Louise, Kay — why don’t you just tattoo “Big Double-Talking Washington Insider” on your forehead and get it over with already?
If you’re gonna quit, then quit like you said you would. If you’re not going to, then just let us know you’re not going to keep your promise.
